Turn Your Stress to Success

This was the title of an hour-long presentation I gave at the Thunderbird Leadership Conference yesterday. After the success of the workshop, I downloaded this.  Here’s the art that was created during my talk – isn’t it cool?  img_20161201_152122502

On a scale of 1 – 10, where is your stress level? Notice it in several areas of your life, personal, financial, vocational, the world, your health, your time freedom. Just notice it. Does it change daily or do you live in a pretty consistent state of stress in at least one area of your life?

Stress is a function of our bodies that is intended to keep us safe. In its inception it was what triggered the flight, fight, freeze chemicals. Centuries ago, it was very important and quite functional in our lives. Now, however, it has become epidemic and quite harmful to our systems because we trigger it, but we never get the designed relief from the stressors.

How in the world can you turn your stress to success? You’ve come to the right place. We explored what success is, and for each of us it might be a bit different, but there were common themes.

Arianna Huffington says  – To live the lives we truly want and deserve, and not just the lives we settle for, we need a Third Metric,” “a third measure of success that goes beyond the two metrics of money and power, and consists of four pillars: well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving.“

Maya Angelou says – Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”

Winston Churchill says – Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.”

Sir Richard Branson, of the Virgin Empire says – “The more you’re actively and practically engaged, the more successful you will feel.“

These are all quotes from an article, How 9 Incredibly Successful People Define Success.

What if success is – Falling Into Ease? What if at the end of the day you deemed yourself successful if you experienced ease, love, compassion and kindness? What if at the end of the day if you can find ease -no matter what happened during the day, you call that successful.

For you see, every time you can step out of stress to ease, the world changes. Every time you can respond in love rather than anger; the world gets a little brighter. Every time you can respond with conscious awareness rather than react blindly, possibilities open up.

To put it in the simplest form, every time you can choose to expand, even as you are contracting, you are making a difference. Every time you can see the innocence in a person rather than judging them harshly, you open a possibility.
