Have you forgotten how to relax?
Think about the word relax. What does that bring up in you?
- I am totally relaxed in every state of my being
- I remember being relaxed… a while back…
- I’d love to relax, but I simply don’t know how
- Relax… what’s that?
- I don’t have time to relax… there is too much to do and I have too many things to worry about!
Where do you fall upon this spectrum? One listed or somewhere else entirely.
This week I had the opportunity to speak about Turning Stress to Success at a Leadership conference to about 60 women (and one man). After one of the very simple exercises we did, I asked the participants how they felt. There were some amazing responses.
One lady said I’m quiet, with this sense of awe. I asked her if this was a normal state for her and if she could say more about it. She pointed to her mouth and said, “I’m quiet here, but what’s most amazing is that I’m quiet here,” as she pointed to her head.
Another said, I’m calm. When asked if that was unusual for her, she looked at me like I was crazy and said, “I don’t ever remember being calm.”
Several spoke about feeling relaxed. When I asked one particular woman about that, she responded by saying she doesn’t remember being relaxed. Ever. In recent years.
Then I went to happy hour with a dear friend of mine yesterday. She knows my work, she helped edit my book, Falling Into Ease and even though she knows the importance and imperativeness of falling into ease, she finds herself unable to relax.
This is for you, my friend – and the hundreds and thousands who have forgotten.
It’s time to relax. It’s time to relax your body enough that your mind can quiet. It’s time to quiet your mind enough so your body can relax.
Why??? If you don’t make the spiritual practice of relaxing priority you will burn out, your body will shut down with dis-ease at some level. There is so much stress in the world, that if you don’t take care of you, no one else will.
What if it can be easy? What if one simple practice could possibly change everything? What if by practicing “relaxing” every day for the next 21 days, What if by practicing “relaxing” every day for the next 21 days, you could discover

- Happier relationships
- A new possibility
