These times as turbulent at best. These times are frightening, especially for those of us who are not white middle class America. These are troubling times for our children and our ancestors.
What I am seeing in a rise, so quickly that it seems automatic, in racism, in discrimination and in disrespect because of the color of your skin, the language of your heart, who you love or who you worship.
This is appalling to me. This is frightening to me. Never mind, but equally disturbing the potential changes in our environmental issues, in our health care and so many other things that could potentially change with our new leadership.
The words from Malachi, were on my heart his morning as I woke. I returned from a deep slumber with joy in my heart, with an awareness of a great good that may come from these troubled times. It may not come easily, but it will come.
“Put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.” Malachi 3:10
Prove me now, says Creation itself. Put me to the test, says the Spirit of the Universe, and I will open the windows of heaven and pour down an overflowing blessing.
Bring into the storehouse all of your tithes. What if our tithes are not only financial, but instead, what if the tithe in this case is our Faith, our Trust and Love. Simply Love.
What if we are being called into an active Love? Take a stand when you see someone being treated differently than you. One person I spoke to yesterday told a story about a friend of his coming into a convenience store and seeing the clerk crying. They had just been abused with horrible words being thrown at them.
There is a saying that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. That is simply not true. The words that are being thrown around this week much more obviously than before are horrible things. They do land into a person like a bullet and cause great harm.
Back to the convenience store. My student went on to say the friend left the story upset as well, wondering what he could do. He went over to a flower shop and brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Returning to the convenience store, he said to the clerk. If one person can ruin your day with hatred, perhaps one person could change your day with kindness.
This is bringing our Love into action. We can and we do make a difference to that one.
There is the story of a little boy throwing sanddollars back into the ocean. A man comes along and asks what the boy is doing, saying he certainly could not get to all of them. The boy’s response was, “made a difference to that one.”
Made a difference to that one.
Bring all of your faith, trust and love into the storehouse, into the world in each and every moment with each and every person you meet. Prove me now! Prove me that Love will overcome. That Love will not be laid aside at the feet of hatred.
We are being called. It might be the most important calling of your lifetime. Take a stand for love; equality; basic human rights. Take a stand for our children that they learn hatred is not ok, that abuse is not ok, that love and kindness will lead to an overflowing of blessings.
