The Truth About Insanity
“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” ~ Albert Einstein
Do you suffer from insanity? I know sometimes I do. I can keep on keeping on, even when I’m not getting the results I’m seeking. Some would call that persistence, but it’s really something different.
Why is that?
- It’s human nature…
- I don’t know what else to do…
- At least if I’m doing something, it feels like I’m not doing nothing…
Do any of these make sense? Do you, perhaps resonate with them though?
Whether is it in your business, your work or relationships or health or money – we all have these patterns that keep us insane.
The truth is if you want something to change you have to do something differently.
To break the cycle of insanity – as in behavior, not diagnosis – is to do something different. Either change a habit or pattern or try something entirely new.
We’ve all heard this idea in some form or another, but let’s unpack it a bit and allow the truth of it to sink in and impact us.
What do you want that is different? I will out myself for a couple of reasons, to be real and to hold myself accountable for doing something differently. I want to publish the book I’m working on. That’s different. I’ve spent many months and years even wanting to write a book and get it published. Then last August, I took action and went to a book writing weekend. It was amazing!
I followed through to a new level, made it further than I ever had before, but I didn’t complete that book and it isn’t published.
Now, I’m working on a new book because it is always easier for me to write than revise and finish. It’s curious, isn’t it? I am moving into a revising stage and feel my same resistance coming up. It shows up for me in a way that says, I don’t know how to take it to the next level. I don’t know who to hire that person who will represent me the way I want. I don’t know…
Here’s what I’m doing differently this time. I’m in a writing group. I’m talking to a number of editors and publishers getting the information I need to move forward.
What are you wanting to complete? Where are you wanting different results that You’ve been getting? Do you see a pattern emerging? Are you ready to SHIFT it?
Here are a few questions to consider if you’d like to move from insanity to clarity and productivity:
- What would you really, really love?
- What is the payoff for not getting it?
- What is the cost of achieving your desire?
- Who are you willing to become to reach your desire?
Is the cost of staying hidden worth the risk of coming out more fully into the world? I’ll leave you with a famous quote by Tony Robbins:
Is the pain of staying insane, getting great enough to risk doing something differently? What will you change today to ensure different results? Try it. Try doing one thing differently today that will lead you towards your deepest desires or goals. It can be something huge or a simple small action. Make the commitment to yourself and post it below!
Here’s to the end of Insanity, as we know it!
